Week of April 13th

Hello Families,

I hope you all had a great "spring break!"

I know this week was very different from what we all expected, but I am thankful that we had some sunshine and beautiful days during our spring break. I hope the students enjoyed some down time from what SJPS is now calling Emergency Remote Learning.  As directed by Governor Whitmer, public schools in Michigan must continue to deliver a method of instruction through the end of the academic year. This will take a different form from the first three weeks of learning that occurred immediately following the initial school closure.

On Monday, you will be receiving a very important email/video message from our superintendent, Dr. Bruce. Our administrators and teacher committee members continued to meet over spring break in order to create a new template of instruction for teachers and students. This is new to all of us. Like many of you, our jobs are changing almost daily. We are learning right along with you, and will do our best to be there for our students. It might be bumpy at first as we all get used to this new way of communicating with each other, but learning is sometimes messy and not a straight path. I will be working to keep a growth mindset for sure!

I will continue to update this blog once a week throughout this time, but I would also expect that I'll need to send emails throughout this process to stay in close touch with all of you. Students will have several opportunities each week to connect with me via online resources. We will continue to utilize Google Classroom, and students will continue to be able to reach me through itsLearning. Google Hangouts will offer us an opportunity to connect as a whole class (YAY!), as well as for students to connect with me on an individual basis. More information about all of this will be coming soon!

I will be posting the week 4 activity board to our Google Classroom on Monday morning. I've left on a few activities from previous weeks but have also changed some things as well. I will update the document as I receive the activities from our music, art, P.E. and S.E.L. teachers so please have your student continue to check the board throughout the week. You can view it here also: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kS11jnAt59LAgAcFekhLf2BhXeYSxpbw439-nJudKn4/edit?usp=sharing

In the meantime, enjoy the rest of this weekend with your family. Soak up all of the love and experiences together that this time affords.  We will get through all of this together.

Stay well and take care,

Mrs. Hassenger
