Checks can be made out to SJPS or cash is also accepted. Thank you to everyone who donated during Back to School Night!
Picture Day (Wednesday 9/25):
Picture information was sent home last week; picture packets can be purchased and paid for online or you can send back the paper envelope with your choice and payment.
Friday Folders:
Please be sure to check your child's yellow take home folder each weekend, review the papers and completed work, empty out and sign the green "Week's Worth of Work" paper on the front cover of the folder. I will collect these sheets on Monday.
Parent-Teacher Conferences:
Conferences will be held beginning the first week of October. I will have results from the beginning of the year NWEA assessment and look forward to discussing your student with you. Please CLICK HERE to access the sign-up sheet to sign up for a date and time.
Brown School Tech Team Application:
Applications are due on Monday September 23rd! Students who were interested in applying to be on the Tech Team this year picked up an application from Mrs. Lear last week.
Student Council Elections:
Each classroom selects two representatives to be the Class Representatives for Student Council. Representatives are responsible for attending Student Council meetings, reporting information back to the classroom and help with building-wide service based projects.
Any student in our classroom is welcome to run for our Class Representative position. They should have a short speech ready by Thursday September 26th and may put up one poster (not necessary) within our classroom to promote themselves. We will be voting on Thursday afternoon for our 2 representatives!
Honor Credit Union:
On Friday, a representative from Honor Credit Union came to talk to our class about applying to be a teller at our school branch of Honor Credit Union! The credit union is open in the cross hall on Friday mornings. Student tellers will be responsible for helping to record deposits from fellow students under the supervision of an Honor Credit Union representative.
Applications for a teller position came home in the Friday Folders on Friday!
Walk-A-Thon:
Walk-a-Thon packets were included in your Back to School Night packet last week (blue forms). We need your help! Walk-a-Thon is the ONLY fundraiser that Brown School does in order to raise money for everything extra that the PTO funds for our students. We would greatly appreciate any and all donations! Donation/Pledge forms can be turned in until Monday September 30.
Walk-a-Thon begins on Monday September 30th!
What we are learning about this week:
Reading/ELA: We have been working on building our reading and writing stamina! I am currently meeting with individual students to determine independent reading levels; we will begin our small groups within the next few weeks.
Math: During this first unit, we are working on reading and writing large numbers into the hundred-thousands place, learning different strategies for rounding and estimating numbers and working through multistep word problems.
It is very important to continue to work on solidifying those multiplication and division facts through 12! Being able to recall these facts will be very helpful as we work into our future math units.
You may have noticed that your child has been writing in the completed lessons into their planner at the end of the day so that you can complete the math homelink pages (optional homework sent home last week - this is not required to be turned in and may be completed at your discretion).
Have a fantastic week!
Mrs. Hassenger
